Today I had my 28 week ultrasound. I have been having ultrasounds every 2 weeks since 26 weeks. The babies looked beautiful and are both head down now. That may change, but there isn't too much room left, so the doctor didn't think so. We didn't get any glances at either babies faces and the ultrasound tech. said that is expected in twin pregnancies in the third trimester because there is just no room left! The boy was measuring 2 pounds 14 ounces and the girl was 2 pounds 11 ounces. They were both 'practice breathing' which means we saw both babies diaphragms moving up and down getting ready for the big boy. My cervix was still nice and long at 4 cm. so the doctor doesn't anticipate premature delivery. It was all EXCELLENT news.
I'm still feeling pretty well. The nights are the hardest part. It's almost impossible to get comfortable to get to sleep and it seems right when I do I need to pee. Or my legs or arms fall asleep. Or I have 2 babies kicking the crap out of me. Or I am hot. Or thirsty. The list goes on and on.... The days are pretty good, although things are taking twice as long. My belly is certainly getting in the way of many things.
I am so grateful to be having such a healthy pregnancy so far. I have heard way too many stories of twins coming too early and all the health issues that come with that. My hope is that I will make it to 37 weeks and both babies get to stay out of the NICU. Spending 10 days with Grayson in the NICU when he was born was torture and I would love to spend those days in the comfort of my own home this time.
Most days I still cannot believe I am having twins! I feel so lucky. I am a lucky duck!
